TV Roundup: Week of 4/8 to 4/14

This round up is a quick look back at this past week in TV. We pull no punches and Matthew, Mark and Omarey will give you their funny, angry, sometimes disappointed but always succinct thoughts on the shows they watch. SPOILER ALERT- Please only read things about shows you have already watched to ensure you don’t ruin your experience. Here’s a look at our thoughts about the week of 4/8 – 4/14

Game of Thrones

Omarey: The quest for the throne intensifies. Didn’t think I would see a black guy on this show, boy was I wrong. He was a pirate too, extra awesome points for that.

The Killing

Matthew: After getting my hopes up with a good season premiere, The Killing brings me back down to Earth with a rather forgettable episode. Not much worth noting here other than the absurdity of Mitch’s storyline.
Omarey:
Little bit of a quality drop, hope that is temporary and not a sign of what the rest of the year will be like…

How I Met Your Mother

Matthew: The hook to the episode seemed like something HIMYM would do, but a lot of the gags just didn’t land for me. The ending for Ted was nice though as was the payoff for Barney’s recurring joke in the future.
Omarey:
Solid episode. It was one of the few that felt like classic HIMYM to me. All of the jokes worked for me except the fart joke but that did lead to the crazy neighbor joke which was hilarious.

Modern Family

Matthew:I was rather excited for this to be back, but this episode did very little for me. Some of the stuff with Cam and Mitchell was alright and Phil had his moments like always, but not a great return for the show.
Omarey:
Mitchell and Cam riding around was hilarious and Gloria trying to describe the bear was great. The final moments were also cool.

Survivor: One World

Matthew:
Ugh… Jay. He got played pretty badly here. Kim has been doing a good job. Surprised it wasn’t more obvious to the guys what was going on, but I guess it looks different watching it from home.
Omarey: Jay fell victim to not paying attention…Leif is gonna sneak his way into the final three.

30 Rock

Matthew:
This show always has some jokes you can miss the first time with the rapid pace at which they are delivered and Jenna’s sexual walkabout checklist is an example of a great one. Lots of funny stuff there. Good episode.
Omarey:
Kenneth’s joke about listening to rock music cracked me up so much I watched it twice.

Community

Matthew:
Some good and some bad in this episode. Troy and Abed had some great lines that had me laughing and the tag was well-done like it usually is when those two are involved.
Omarey: Solid episode. I liked Annie’s ploys to keep Britta from her phone and Troy knowing Britta and how to handle her.

Scandal

Omarey:
Kerry Washington is great as Olivia Pope how she resolved the two cases was simple yet brilliant.

Touch

Omarey: I liked that the girl got hit by a car in this one. It was awful but it showed that even though things work out it isn’t always without pain just like in real life.

Awake

Matthew:
The procedural elements were kind of forgettable this week but I did kind of enjoy the conspiracy stuff. Seems we will never get to see where all of it leads though unfortunately.
Omarey:
Solid episode not as good as last week but Britten and company still have me intrigued. I liked the Ricky’s taco angle it was neat to wonder whether it was a clue or if he was losing his mind.

Fringe

Matthew:
Just excellent. Loved seeing the two teams work together with the Astrids acting as the communication between the two. The way they handled the Broyles plotline was also well-done. Oh and domesticated badgers… how wonderful. (Editor’s Pick Favorite Episode of the Week: Matthew)
Omarey: Awesome episode top to bottom. I love the switching back and forth between universes…we should have been doing this all year…Glad Broyles wasn’t a shapeshifter but I am sad he is in jail, although he should be.  (Editor’s Pick Favorite Episode of the Week: Omarey)
